In my non fiction article, the victim Christiane was accused of stealing a product from Barney's that someone of her race wouldn't normally be able to afford. She was arrested and after 5 hours of interrogation, she showed them the receipt and she was released.
The police apologized many of times after she was released but that doesn't erase the problem. How can you arrest someone based on opinion and not fact. Christiane didn't break any laws, there's no reason for her to get arrested. Because she is black they assumed she wouldn't have money and wouldn't live a very privileged life. But they were wrong and their stupid mistake made the author of the article highlight the system that makes them feel that their opinion was correct to make at the time period.
The government is suppose to fight for the people and give equal rights to everyone. To be honest all they are is the power figure who is controlled by a suppressing race(s). They live off of their stereotypes. No matter what they are never going to want to change that. They are "playing" the government and the suppressed race(s). None of what they think truly matters, they are the group with the money everything they say goes. The suppressed group has nothing going for them and they are stuck with no where to go because it seems like almost everything they do is wrong.
The new generation realizes that this is not right why can't the older? They are suppose to be wiser so they are suppose to do what is right, to know what is right but they don't. America is a place of equality and peace the government should take charge and lead us there.

Wow ajahee, this post is very powerful and opinionated. I found it very interesting when you said the government is just a power figure controlled by a suppressing race/races. You make a very interesting point that our generation understands that what Barneys did was very wrong and that we cant judge one another based on the color of their skin, but some adults cant make that realization. I think they are stuck on the past, remembering what is was like back then where people were judged based on their color, and if one was of color, they were automatically thought of less than a white person. This piece was really strong and I liked how you went into the text and made a text to world connection!
ReplyDeleteAjahee, this critical analysis is really powerful and really makes me think about how Christiane must have felt, and any other person of race or color that had something like Christianes experience happen to them. My question is, have you ever had an experience like that, or been close to someone who has? More specifically, how is this problem personal to you?
ReplyDeleteI have experienced a time where I was discriminated for my color. Reading that article did make me rethink about that situation and I realized there was nothing I could do. I was little and I did not understand why people were mean, I took it as I was agreeing with the girl who discriminated against me. And just thinking that I felt helpless and reading about Christiane made me realize that she must have me clueless about what to do at first because she didn't expect it to happen and now that it did it teaches to be ready when the most craziest thing could happen because you never want to be afraid and unsure of how to feel in a moment where it's just so appalling what was done
DeleteAjahee, this is really interesting, but review the critical analysis structure - I want you to analyze the piece before you state your opinion!
